Taking the Regio train on the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn is not a fast way to travel. The train stops at almost every station, and every little village has one. In addition the line is mostly single track. Meets of opposing trains are built into the schedule. This works impressively well and with Swiss precision.
Therefore I was a bit surprised when the train displays announced that we are waiting for a delayed opposing train. There's such a thing as train delays in Switzerland? Huh!
I asked the conductor if I have enough time to go to the front of the train and take some photos.
Ok. I take my things, just in case, and go to the front of the train. Beautiful out here. Ahead of us in the valley I make out the other train working its way uphill. I have some time.
The panoroma is just amazing, and I try to take several photos of landscape with train. Some even turned out quite acceptable.
An on we go rolling downhill through wondrous winter scenery. I can't decide which side I just look out of the train, so I'm bouncing back and forth between windows and doors to much irritation by several other travelers in the car. The clicking of the camera shutter release probably didn't help either.
"I don't know how long we're going to stay here. All I know is that the other train is delayed. Not sure how much time you have when it comes."

R 526 has finally made it to Muenster, and I hurry back to get on my train. As I walk down the ramp, I see the conductor looking out for me and wait until I'm back on. Thank you!
