Sargent

Sargent is the site of a former station on the Southern Pacific main line, just south of Corporal. Santa Cruz Trains has a good article about this site, too.

Whenever we drove through this area on Highway 101, I wanted to pull off the highway and look around. Since I came through here by myself recently, I took the opportunity to do just that.

The most visible remnant of the Sargent station is the sugar beet loader.

Everything is as abandoned as the former sidings. The track in the rear is the active main line track of the Coast Line to San Louis Obispo and on to Santa Barbara.

The beet loader from the other side.

There must have been a conveyor belt between the loader and the dump chute, next to what looks like a truck scale.
