Annweiler am Trifels

For over 300 years tanners brought prosperity to Annweiler am Trifels. Most of the tanners were Huguenots fleeing religious persecution in their home country and were granted asylum in Palatinate-Zweibruecken. Their houses still line the creeks on Gerbergasse and Wassergasse today.

Tanners used waterwheels to power their tools and machines. The hotel I stayed at has a water in the middle of the restaurant on the first floor.

A couple other houses still have a waterwheels. The waterwheel at Museum unterm Trifels appears to drive a bunch of machinery.

Very nice atmosphere.
